Joint MEC solutions for optimizing and accelerating video delivery and IoT services will be showcased at #MWC17

Tech Mahindra, a specialist in digital transformation, consulting and business re-engineering, and Saguna, a pioneer in Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) that makes mobile broadband faster, simpler and more economical, have joined hands to improve user experience and mobile network utilization.

With the increasing consumption of mobile video, mobile networks are fast becoming video networks. Additionally, mobile networks are adding thousands of IoT devices streaming information to internet cloud application. However, mobile operators need partners that can help them transform their products and services to effectively manage Radio Access Network (RAN) resources, optimize delivery and monitor quality of the new mobile services. RAN technology connects individual devices to other parts of a network through radio connections.

Tech Mahindra and Saguna are addressing mobile operators’ need to optimize and manage the RAN for video delivery and IoT services. Tech Mahindra’s portfolio of solutions and services provide mobile operators a way to transform the edge of the RAN into micro-clouds with analytics tools and real-time actionable insights for mobile operators. It closes the loop by delivering video KPIs over the RAN to Self-Organizing Networks (SON) and Software Defined Network (SDN) solutions.

The joint solutions use the Saguna Open-RAN MEC platform, which creates an open ecosystem for 3rd party applications inside mobile RAN. The ETSI MEC standard-based solution enables mobile operators to quickly and effectively deploy new revenue-generating services for Internet-of-things (IoT), cyber security, virtual probes, content delivery and augmented reality applications.

It’s critical for mobile operators to have effective, automated tools for managing, monitoring video delivery and IoT services in order to improve network efficiency while ensuring high quality user experiences. By partnering with Saguna, Tech Mahindra can leverage Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) to power the company’s expertise in designing, deploying cloud computing networks, applications and automation tools that run from the cloud. Bringing cloud-computing into the RAN, MEC enables us to deliver real-time, actionable intelligence to our mobile operator partners,” said Peeyush Goyal, Sr. Vice President, Network Services, Tech Mahindra.

Partnering with Tech Mahindra is an important step for Saguna in accelerating the market adoption of Multi-access Edge Solutions,” said Randy Cook, VP Business Development at Saguna. “Mobile operators are challenged with handling ever-increasing volumes of video traffic and using the same networks for IoT services. Leveraging the MEC standard, our joint solution is well-positioned to help mobile operators effectively manage and scale video delivery and IoT services.”
