Saguna and Vimmi Partner To Create Video Delivery Network Solution based On Multi-Access Edge Computing

Joint MEC solution accelerating video delivery will be showcased at #MWC17

Saguna, the Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) pioneer making mobile broadband faster, simpler and more economical, and Vimmi, the mobile video delivery innovator announced today a partnership to bring to market a Content Delivery solution for mobile operators based on the Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) standard. The joint solution features Vimmi Mobile Delivery Network (MDN) and Saguna Open-RAN MEC platform.

Mobile networks are becoming video networks.  With video playing the leading role in terms of traffic and subscriber volumes, Mobile Operators need a scalable solution to deliver high-quality, immersive video experiences. By deploying video services at the radio edge, in close proximity to mobile users, MEC enables the deployment of a powerful video delivery infrastructure for mobile networks.

The joint solution from Vimmi and Saguna address this market opportunity. The Saguna Open-RAN MEC platform that creates an open ecosystem for 3rd party applications inside mobile Radio Access Network (RAN). The ETSI MEC standard-based solution enables mobile operators to quickly and effectively deploy new revenue-generating services for Internet-of-things (IoT), cyber security, virtual probes, content delivery and augmented reality applications.

Integrated with the Saguna Open-RAN MEC platform, Vimmi’s MDN solution uses grid computing and machine learning technologies that enables delivery of premium video quality at a dramatically lower operational cost. The solution reduces 70%-90% of mobile backhaul traffic while improving QoE. It reduces Round Trip Time for Video and IoT Applications achieving 5G performance targets in 4G networks.

“Mobile Edge Computing is an emerging standard that helps Mobile operators to meet the growing consumer demand for economical, high-quality video experiences.  By integrating Saguna’s Multi-access Edge Computing solution with our video-aware Mobile Delivery Network, we are delivering a critical step-change in mobile video transport performance”, said Eitan Koter, Co. CEO and Founder, Vimmi. “As video streaming continues to grow and becomes significantly more important to service providers’ business, mobile operators will be looking for the best-in-class technologies that can give them an edge. I believe that the Saguna and Vimmi collaboration is going to be provide them with that edge; the combination of the highest possible video delivery efficiency and video performance.”

Commenting on the integration, Saguna CTO Danny Frydman said, “The accelerated growth of video over mobile networks makes Multi-access Edge Computing a crucial addition to mobile networks infrastructure in existing 4G networks and future 5G ones. We are very pleased to join forces with Vimmi on bringing to market highly-effective MEC-based video delivery solutions mobile networks.”
