Moving forward with Mobile Edge Computing Proof of Concepts

ETSI MEC POCsAt Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) Congress 2016, ETSI will host the first ever MEC Proof-of-Concept (PoC) zone. Here is why this is important for MEC and the mobile industry.

Each MEC PoC brings together a mobile operator and one or more industry vendors. Together, each group focuses on creating an integrated use case and demonstrating it. The result is multiple use-case PoCs spanning across a wide variety of market segments and solutions, which can be effectively addressed by MEC. This important initiative is helping move the MEC standard forward accelerating the transition from paper to real world deployments. It establishes a broad MEC ecosystem for mobile operators and vendors.

There are already 8 approved ETSI MEC PoCs spanning across a wide variety of verticals. As the only “pure-play” MEC software vendor, the Saguna vEdge is the MEC platform in 2 of the PoCs with more in the pipeline. You can read about our PoC led by Brocade with Mobile Operator Vodafone here, and our PoC led by ADVA Optical with mobile operator Bezeq International here.

There are always reasons and obstacles that delay the adoption of any new and innovative standard, like MEC. Mobile Operators are already strained juggling between multiple network expansion and innovation projects.  The MEC PoC initiative is reducing the barrier-to-entry making it easier for mobile operators to promote MEC in their network development strategy and accelerate deployment.
